Fire Rated Openings

What is a Fire Rated Opening?

A fire door is a door with a fire-resistance rating used as part of a passive fire protection (PFP) with the purpose to contain or slow the spread of fires throughout a building and to enable safe egress from the building.

NFPA 80 defines a Fire Door Assembly as any combination of a fire door, a frame, hardware and other accessories that together provide a specific degree of fire protection to the opening.
